The Creative Team behind the Book!

Roger Culbertson (Designer)

Roger designed The Pop-Up Story of Delray Beach and created all the pop-ups in the book. He has created pop-ups for over 100 books and numerous commercial pop-up projects, such as magazine ads and brochures. In 2002, he created the world's largest pop-up book at the Cornell Museum at Old School Square in Delray Beach, in conjunction with a pop-up book exhibit. The book, Aesop's Fables, is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

Roger began his career as a sportswriter and moved into publication management as the managing editor of an agricultural research group. After a brief stint on the production staff of the Los Angeles Times in 1979, he joined the production department of Intervisual Communications, the world's largest packager of pop-up books. He moved from production to pop-up design a couple of years later, working with the top designers in the industry at that time.

Roger left Intervisual in 1990 to start his own pop-up packaging company in Philadelphia, Designimation, Inc. In 1993, Designimation was ranked No. 12 on Philadelphia's 100 Fastest Growing Companies list. He moved his company to Florida in 1997.

Although Designimation no longer functions as a full-service pop-up packager, Roger still designs pop-up books and consults with publishers and pop-up manufacturers.

Roger has agreed to create a record-breaking, single-copy edition of The Pop-Up Story of Delray Beach. He will be working on the construction of the new world-record book at various locations in Delray Beach throughout the year.

Al Margolis (Illustrator)

Al is well known for his inventive visuals and insightful, humorous illustrations. A Cleveland Art School graduate, his career includes a long stint as an advertising agency art director, and more recently as owner of Margolis Creative, a graphic design and illustration group.

Al's illustrations have been used around the world in a wide variety of advertising campaigns, from baby products and children's toys to tourism, magazine assignments, calendars and day planners, as well as in children's books, e-books, and greeting cards.

His community work has included advertising for a children's art center, a private school, a foster care and adoption home, and a special needs facility. He brings his broad experience and supportive approach to every project.

Occasionally, when there is spare time, Al makes frames for the paintings done by his wife Penny, a folk artist. He also manages his two web sites: www.almargolis.com and www.margoliscreative.com.
